Merchant Ivory receive British Academy Fellowship

Merchantivory.com is pleased to announce that director James Ivory, producer Ismail Merchant and writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala received a Bafta Academy Fellowship at the Bafta Awards, the UK's main film awards ceremony on February 24.

They join a long list of some of the biggest names in the industry who have been given the award, including Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Sean Connery and Steven Spielberg. Actress Dame Judi Dench, who was nominated for a best supporting actress Bafta in 1987 for Merchant Ivory's A Room with a View, was the most recent person to be given the fellowship honour in December 2001.

The Bafta ceremony was hosted by actor Stephen Fry and took place in London, with live coverage on BBC One.
